Jason AhlquistJason Ahlquist, the creator of Winter Harvest used to run the entertainment website MarsDust.com. In it's heyday, the site was positively reviewed by Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine and hailed by the SciFi Channel website as the future of online fandom. Before that he was a newsroom consultant, working in almost a hundred newsrooms across America, a graphic artist and professional illustrator. Aside from Winter Harvest, he is currently working on his first novel called Combustion City Folklore - which was selcted for an Editor's Choice nod on the respected SFF online writer's workshop. Jason has interviewed many public figures such as Neil Gaiman, Bruce Campbell and Finger Eleven. He has  lectured at New York University, the University of Tennessee and Eastern Michigan University on the subject of journalism and technology as well as appearing on discussion panels with Bruce Sterling, Neil Gaiman, Gardner Dozois, Greg Bear and Karl Schroeder on subjects ranging from transhumanism to editing. He is one of the menber owners of Ahlquist Media Lab LLC.

Karin Lowachee

KarinKarin Lowachee was born in South America, grew up in Ontario Canada, and worked in the Arctic.  Her first novel WARCHILD won the 2001 Warner Aspect First Novel Contest.  Both WARCHILD (2002) and her third novel CAGEBIRD (2005) were finalists for the Philip K. Dick Award. CAGEBIRD won the Prix Aurora Award in 2006 for Best Long-Form Work in English and her second novel BURNDIVE debuted at #7 on the Locus Bestseller List.  Her current fantasy novel, THE GASLIGHT DOGS, will be published through Orbit Books US in April 2010. 

 

Diane Frkan

Diane Frkan

Diane Frkan  is a published journalist, writer and filmmaker. After graduating from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and minor in journalism, Diane wrote for the Detroit Auto Scene and Tech Center News reporting on automotive business and also for Marsdust where wrote she on online fandom and cult favorites such as Ted Raimi.

Currently, Diane is a freelance journalist where she's had the opportunity to interview actors such as Ron Perleman, Doug Jones, The Ghoul, Kristy Swanson, Karen Allen, Gil Gerard, Erin Gray, Sean Kenney, Tom Sullivan, Yancy Butler, Alfonso Riberio, Erin Moran, Bruce Davidson, Luciana Carro and many others who have attended the Motor City Comic Convention each year in May. Favorite interviews of Diane include, retired professional ice hockey player, Igor "The Professor" Larionov, Ron Perleman, Doug Jones, Ted Raimi, The Ghoul and finally, Tiger Woods.

But it was in 2005, where she learned the art of film production having worked on Detroit’s critically acclaimed sci-fi series, "InZer0" as Art Director, to working on the trailer for DancingStar Production's "Naked Angel" and as Associate Producer and Production Designer for No Fun Film's, "After the Blood Rush", a modern day vampire feature filmed in Hamtramck that was recently sold into distribution.
 
This is Diane's first Executive Producer position and is quite excited to be part of Winter Harvest and even more excited to be a part of Michigan's growing film industry and believes that Detroit, is the next "Hollywood"!

Marisol Ahlquist
Line Producer

MarisolMarisol is a Detroit native with a background in business management. She is one of the member owners of Ahlquist Media lab LLC. She's been a part of the Michigan fandom community since she was a teenager and has a deep love of all things Star Trek. She was also once the photo editor for MarsDust.com and has taken pictures of many celebrities and events.

 

 

David Rozian
Cinematographer, Lighting Designer

David RozianDavid Rozian has been behind the camera for over 25 years shooting subjects ranging from sporting events to fashion models. He is a University of Michigan graduate with a degree in Natural Resources. He's performed with the Ann Arbor Civic Theater, has experience as a special effects prosthetic designer and has been a regular attendee of science fiction conventions for almost a quarter century. His meticulous approach to photography and lighting design makes him perfect for a stylistic project like Winter Harvest.

 

  Kenneth Paylor
Assistant Director

kp KP is a filmmaker who, “Just wants to go film.” At his young age, he has had the opportunity to work with some of Michigan’s finest directors, AD’s, DP’s and gaffers.

He has worked in various capacities on several commercials, independent feature films, and short films. He also makes up one half (with Dan Germony) of the Royal Oak productions company, West 12 Productions.

 

 

Caleb Gilbert
Casting Director

Caleb GilbertCaleb is a professionally trained, classic actor and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Wayne State University. There he learned and honed his skills in the Stanislavski system of acting.  He received the Lily Tomlin Scholarship while in attendance. He also earned a Best Actor award for his portrayal of Frank Charles in Pearl Cleag's "Flyn' West" and a Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Renfield in Stephen Dietz's "Dracula".  Caleb's most current work is portraying the veteran courier "Cal" on the the Sci-Fi series InZerO.  He is also an accomplished Scottish Highland bagpiper and regularly perfoms with his band, The Black House Ceilidh, and as a guest artist with the celtic band Equinox amongst many others.

 Nan Luchini
Script Supervisor, Assistant to the Casting Director

nan Nan Luchini (that's Lou-Key-Knee - yes, like zucchini) graduated from EMU with a BA in Theater Arts.  Nan has worked on several productions at Performance Network the last 4 years including Doubt, Candida, Dirty Blonde, Take Me Out, I Am My Own Wife, A Picasso.  Recently Nan Stage Managed The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Meadowbrooke Theatre.  Nan has also Stage Managed for Brundibar, and Assistant Stage Managed for Carmen at the Detroit Opera House.   When Nan isn't working, which happens about 3 hours a month, she loves to spend time with T and her dogs Homer an Kira. 

 

Russ VanNess
Special Effects Supervisor

Russ VanNessRuss "TopHat" Van Ness is a Renaissance man and artistic Jack of all Trades.  He received an Associates in General Arts from Henry Ford Community College and a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Wayne State University.  In addition he has experience in sculpture, airbrush, welding art, graphic design, illustration and just about every other art form you can think of.  He has designed and painted high end Halloween decorations and worked as a DJ in the Detroit bar industry.  Russ is also an award winning body painter and makeup artist, using hand painted and airbrush techniques.  Self taught in the ways of FX makeup, Russ has done makeup and body painting for several large events and haunted houses in the Detroit area .

 Michael Andeluz

Freon

Michael "Freon"  Andaluz has been an arts and costume competition director for several Metro Detroit SF/Fantasy fandom conventions over 20 years, and has been recognized there for prize winning ensemble and individual genre costume and props efforts on technical merit and originality.
 
Freon's artwork is featured on several fan and convention websites, and many conferences have enthusiastically welcomed his participation as a desktop animator, sound recordist and engineer and short story writer/publisher.
 
While several of his family members are working in the motion picture industry out west, he's actively bringing people in Michigan up to par with press kits at RayZooMay in Pontiac Michigan, where he produces promotional video and agency prep material for post-automotive professionals.
